It was 1970 when the U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson launched an appeal which was welcomed by millions of Americans who participated in a demonstration in defense of the Earth. 43 years have passed since then and today 22nd of April, Earth Day celebrates once again the need for an eco lifestyle and above all sustainable.
It's a global event involving 175 countries with events, concerts, and events dedicated to raising awareness of the Earth and nature.
Among the various participating countries, of course, there's also Italy, as every year, is preparing to celebrate Earth Day with The Concert for the Earth, which this year takes place in Milan. On stage at the Teatro della Luna will perform Fiorella Mannoia and Algerian singer Khaled. The show will be tranmitted in streaming on the web site of Earth Day Italy and deferred basis on Sky One HD starting at midnight.
Even the football goes on the field for the Earth Day 2013: Series B teams will wear during matches, a green wristband that says "Io ci tengo" (I care).
Also we can help to save the world through pictures. Until the end of today you can take pictures that describe the relationship between humans and the planet and then make an upload on the site of Earth Day Italia and/or to Shoot4Change with the hashtag: #shoot4planet and #iearth. Alternatively, you can upload your pictures on social networking sites with the hashtag: #shoot4planet, #earthdayitalia and #iearth.
This is a real opportunity to celebrate our planet, as Hemingway wrote: "the world is a fine place and worth the fighting for."

Da allora sono passati 43 anni e oggi 22 aprile 2013, la Giornata della Terra celebra ancora una volta la necessità di uno stile di vita eco e soprattutto sostenibile.
E' un evento globale che coinvolge 175 nazioni con eventi, concerti, e iniziative dedicate alla sensibilizzazione nei confronti della Terra e della natura.
Tra i vari paesi partecipanti, ovviamente, c'è anche l'Italia che, come ogni anno, si prepara a celebrate la Giornata della Terra con Il Concerto per la Terra che, quest'anno si tiene a Milano. Sul palco del Teatro della Luna si esibiranno Fiorella Mannoia e il cantante algerino Khaled. Lo spettacolo sarà trasmesso in streaming sul sito di Earth Day Italia e in differita anche su Sky Uno HD a partire da mezzanotte.
Anche il calcio scende, letteralmente, in campo per l'Earth Day 2013: le squadre della serie B indosseranno, durante le partite, un polsino verde con la scritta IO CI TENGO.
Anche noi possiamo contribuire a salvare il mondo attraverso una foto. Fino alla fine della giornata di oggi potrete scattare foto che descrivano il rapporto tra l'uomo e il pianeta e poi farne un upload sul sito di Earth Day Italia e/o su quello di Shoot4Change con gli hashtag: #shoot4planet e #iearth.
